North America’s largest skating race just got bigger and better.
Now in its 24th year, NorthShore Inline Marathon, Inc. (NSIM) is sporting a new logo and fresh lineup of events for September 13-14, 2019.
“We are excited to roll out, no pun intended, our plans for more fun, more interactivity, and something for everyone with our Skate Fest concept,” said NSIM Race Director Mike Ward.
The marathon’s new official name is the NorthShore Inline Marathon and Skate Fest, and it features a skate expo, clinics, a social skate, and demos from experienced skaters in disciplines like derby and speed skating.
NSIM has also added to its robust roster of races, announcing a new Tunnel 10k Skate and 21k Rollerski. The Tunnel 10k Skate joins the popular Tunnel 10k Run and is nearly entirely on the I-35 freeway in Duluth, with the race course traveling through six tunnels. The 21k Rollerski is a half marathon distance race to complement the 42k Rollerski.
This means there’s a total of eight race options this year:
NorthShore Inline Marathon – 26.2 miles point-to-point from Two Harbors to downtown Duluth
Half Marathon Skate – 13.1 miles from the marathon half-way point
Tunnel 10k Skate – Family-friendly, non-competitive fun skate through the tunnels on I-35
Combined 39.3 – Race the half marathon, hop on the bus, race the full marathon, and compete for the fastest combined time
42k Rollerski – 26.2 miles point-to-point from Two Harbors to downtown Duluth
21k Rollerski – 13.1 miles from the marathon half-way point
Tunnel 10k – 6.2-mile running race through the tunnels on I-35
St. Luke’s Wheels Off Half Marathon – 13.1-mile running race
Above all, NSIM hopes to provide opportunities for everyone to have a great NorthShore Inline Marathon and Skate Fest, whether they’re racing through the tunnels or checking out the weekend activities.
“Our main priority…is to be more inclusive to all different skill levels and all different types of skaters, whether it be roller derby, aggressive, slalom and artistic skaters, and more. Also, we believe our new identity will help push our mission of getting people outside and active while creating a positive impact for the Duluth community,” said Ward.
The NorthShore Inline Marathon is the largest inline marathon in North America. September 14, 2019 marks the 24th annual event, which draws 2,000 athletes from around the world to participate in the inline skating, rollerski, and running races. For more information, visit www.northshoreinline.com
