Following a brief annual meeting, Dan Reed will discuss how to utilize resources such as local newspapers, readings, and archival information to create a genealogical story about our ancestors. He will also mention how to interview others to piece together these stories, using materials that are not found on the computer. Dan will share with us some of his own stories, based on his Finnish background and extensive writing experiences.
Mr. Reed is a UMD graduate, with majors in history and English, which he has used to create a varied list of historical materials and theatrical plays. He still lives in western Carlton County, where his ancestors settled to work the land and log drives; an area famous for its logging activities years ago, but devastated by the fire of 1918. Dan will be participating in many of the regional festivities highlighting the 1918 events for the fires, flu, and World War I, including the production of his new play entitled “The Women of 1918.”
