Artist Statement: I have written a young adult novel about a time travel adventure through the dreamtime portal. This story begins in a residential area in Minneapolis, Minnesota called Prospect Park, or also known as Tangle Town. There is a water tower there known as the Witch’s Tower, and this is where the dreamtime story begins. Notti Pine is a young girl, guided by her grandfather and the magical power of a golden bracelet of gems. She learns of the dreamtime portal and travels into the ancient past to help save a fertile river valley and it’s farmers from drought when their Lady of the valley is kidnapped. Notti’s journey teaches her the magic of the natural world, and the consequences of human injustices, greed, and the abuse of power.
I was inspired to write this fiction story after meeting and being culturally adopted by a couple I invited to present when I was a program director for an art center in Hawaii. They believed that their clan were the first people of the Hawaiian Islands who migrated from a mystical land near New Zealand known as Mu. They encouraged me to write my own story and to adapt the concept of a dream time portal of time travel to perpetuate the practice of believing and trusting one’s dreams, as a believable, and communicative natural human phenomena.
