We are excited to announce that as part of Zeitgeist’s Year of the Womxn programming series, our keynote address at the 8th Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride & Luncheon will be Melody Hoffman, author of a book called Bike Lanes are White Lanes. Bicycle lanes are complicated. Dr. Melody Hoffmann will talk with the Duluth community about bicycle amenities (e.g. bicycle lanes, paths) and their intersection with new rider encouragement and rising economic and racial inequities. Questions up for discussion include: What limits do bicycle amenities put on the conversation around encouraging new riders (especially women)? How are bicycle amenities used by cities to recruit the creative class? What bicycle story will Duluth follow in its growing bicycle community? Dr. Hoffmann will experience the local Duluth bicycle amenities and talk about the future of bicycling in Duluth through a social equity lens.
This event is part of Zeitgeist’s Year of the Womxn- a 12-month series of programming throughout 2019 that highlights women’s stories, perspectives, and experiences while showcasing that women can, and do, hold positions of power, leadership, and influence across our community.
