Parr returns to town — and Wednesdays
It’s a little like the old days. Charlie Parr will play Cedar Lounge on Wednesdays through January. The local blues-folk singer, who released the album “Dog” earlier this year, had a history of playing Wednesday shows, billed as a “midweek bracer,” for years. Cut to so much crazy-dancing, while the local favorite sat hunched over his guitar. Meanwhile, Parr has just returned from touring out west, where he played shows in Utah, California, Oregon and Montana (alongside John Mark Nelson for at least part of it.)
Charlie Parr plays at 8 p.m. Jan. 3 at Cedar Lounge, 1715 N. Third St., Superior. Free.

Isles releases ‘Morning Sketchbook’

Isles plays at 7 p.m. today in the balcony at Clyde Iron Works and on Friday at Encore Performing Arts Center in Cloquet, where he has just finished playing a role in “Sanders Family Christmas.” The 15-track album features Isles on guitar and vocals, his wife, Kate Isles, also on vocals, Derek Birkeland on mandolin, violin and vocals and Sarah Birkeland on upright bass and vocals.
Bill Isles CD release show for “Morning Sketchbook” is 7 p.m. Dec. 28 at Clyde Iron Works. Tickets: $10 at the door; CD release show at Encore Performing Arts Center in Cloquet is 7 p.m. Dec. 29. Tickets: $15 advance at (218) 878-0071 and $18 at the door.
Tim Mahoney plays Pier B

Tim Mahoney, an award-winning singer-songwriter, fared well with a song from the show. “Leather and Lace,” a duet with Casey Weston,” landed on iTunes charts. Beer Money opens.
