Whitewater Kayakers Hit Lester River

In case you need another sign of spring, kayakers were out Saturday afternoon marking the unofficial start to the whitewater kayaking season on the North Shore.

The Lester River Race has been held each spring for the past five years, always happening alongside the start of the snowmelt runoff.

Organizers say the race draws expert kayakers from around the US to paddle on the class IV-V Lester River, which flows within the city limits of Duluth and into Lester Park.
