The folks down at The King of Creams have been turning out some pretty delicious food at their location on East 4th St. When I saw a post on their Facebook claiming they had the best cheesesteak in town, I knew I had to check it out.

[The Bread 8/10] Finding a bun that can hold up to the many pressures of a good cheesesteak is not an easy task. Prime Rib, good prime rib, is hot and juicy and will leave a weaker bun with a soggy bottom. Nobody wants a soggy bottom. The folks at The King of Creams have you covered, though, with a deliciously soft hoagie roll, ideal for the task at hand.

[The Meat 8/10] There are a lot of different options for meat on a cheesesteak: in Philadelphia, you might find a cheesesteak made with ribeye; other favorites include flank steak, or a even combination of different cuts. The folks at The King of Creams thought it best to rock a generous helping of thinly sliced prime rib on their cheesesteak and I, for one, have no complaints. It’s juicy and tender— exactly what you might expect the best cheesesteak in town to provide.

[The Toppings 8/10] By default, the cheesesteak will come prepared with the classic cheesesteak toppings: grilled green peppers and onions smothered in melty Provolone cheese. These ingredients are what makes a cheesesteak a cheesesteak, and The King of Creams obviously knows that. For just a few cents more you can (read: should) add sauteed mushrooms to the mix. Why? The same reason you should add them to every other steak: because mushrooms are delicious.

[Accoutrements 8/10] The cheesesteak comes with a side of super crispy, well-seasoned, hand-cut fries. I know they were hand cut because I saw one of the employees cutting the fries while waiting for my sandwich to arrive. It doesn’t get any fresher than that. They paired quite nicely with the sandwich and were a welcome addition to my gastronomic adventure.

[Conclusion] The King of Creams should definitely be on your culinary radar. Reaching, and excelling, beyond their delicious ice cream (you have had their ice cream, right?) they have an ever-expanding menu of delicious and savory food items sure to sate your appetite. Be it a cheesesteak, or one of their new portobello ‘shroom burgers, you really can’t go wrong. It’s good to be the King.
