Located in the bustling Hart District of downtown Duluth, The Blind Pig is a newly-opened Gastropub and Ale House with a street food-inspired menu. Along with the local Duluth-brewed favorites and domestic standards, The Blind Pig offers an exclusively-brewed Coconut Stout on tap. Duluth.com stopped in for the grand opening festivities, and sampled the Sriracha Chicken sandwich.
[The Bread 8/10]
Everything tastes better when it’s made in-house. The brioche for the sriracha chicken is no exception. Sesame seeds peppered the exterior of the bun, which dutifully supported the chicken but didn’t overwhelm the experience.
[The Meat 8/10]
The sriracha chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a good heat provided by the sriracha batter. If you like sriracha on anything else, this chicken will be right up your alley.
The sriracha chicken is topped with lettuce and mayo, which in this case was jalapeno mayo, providing an additional level of heat. The real stars of the toppings were the pickled onions and peppers, which brought balance to the spicy and salty chicken.
Pub fries accompany the sriracha chicken sandwich. Unobtrusive and plentiful, the generous share of fries was a welcome respite to the heat of the sandwich. (And they tasted pretty good, too.)
The Blind Pig is downtown Duluth’s newest restaurant, and a welcome addition to the Hart District. With a name and location evocative of the days of the speakeasy, you’re in for a unique experience. If you’re looking for a sandwich, tacos, a quick drink, or a live show, there’s something for everyone on the menu. Stop by and order a sriracha chicken sandwich, and tell them Duluth.com sent you!
