Located on the shores of Lake Supeior, Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake is a family friendly pub that has been serving up delicious food for over 35 years. They offer a huge selection of sandwiches, a rotating selection of over 20 beers on tap, and a pet friendly patio with water bowls for your four-legged-friend and breath taking views of Lake Superior. We stopped by for lunch and tried the Sir Ben’s Boar.
[The Bread 8/10]
There is something special about any restaurant that makes it’s own bread. Sir Ben’s makes a lot of their ingredients in house and the focaccia that cradles this sandwich is one of the best. It’s soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, giving the sandwich beautiful texture.
[The Meat 9/10]
Being a Duluth native, I always thought porchetta (porketta) was a Minnesota tradition but actually it’s heritage is Italian. One taste of Sir Ben’s and it won’t matter who invented it. The roasted pork is salty and sweet and super moist. It’s the kind of meat that you taste and wonder how you ever survived without it in your life. This is the kind of meat that’ll bring you back time and again.
As if the meat needed any help, the culinary geniuses at Sir Ben’s decided to top the magical porchetta with caramelized onions, creamy melty fontina cheese, and this amazing slow-roasted-fennel mayo.
All sandwiches at Sir Ben’s come with fresh and crispy potato chips. I especially like the chips with the boar because of the crunchy textural contrast they provide to the sandwich.
[Conclusion] If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a tasty meal with a view, a venue with live music 5+ nights a week, or just a place relax and enjoy an adult beverage, Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake has you covered.
