Whether you’re getting in gear for Grandma’s Marathon or just ready to lace up those running shoes and get outside, mark your calendars for Saturday, April 22. That’s when 2,000 runners will hit Superior Street for the 28th annual Fitger’s 5K Run & Walk.
Registration just opened for the wildly popular race, which begins in front of Fitger’s and loops through downtown Duluth and Canal Park.
For the first time ever, all finishers will receive a commemorative medal and a quarter zip shirt.
Plus, when you take on the Fitger’s 5K, you’re also helping local kids stay active. All net proceeds go to the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma’s Marathon program that promotes healthy lifestyles for youth in St. Louis, Carlton, Cook, Lake and Douglas counties. To date, the YAF has given more than $860,000 to area nonprofit and youth athletic organizations.
The Fitger’s 5K marks the second race in the 2017 KP Challenge, which can help runners stay on schedule and finish longer distances.
