Here’s 5 facts you didn’t know about the statue of liberty!
The real Statue of Liberty has a 35-foot waistline and weighs 225 tons. Please don’t tease her about her girth or her green hair though (the result of oxidized copper) as she doesn’t have very thick skin. The statue’s surface is a mere 1/8 of an inch thick.
If she wore shoes, her shoe size would be a massive 879!
She may stand for liberty, but women were not allowed at her dedication ceremony.
The weather was so bad the day of the dedication, the Statue of Liberty’s torch could not be illuminated.
As for our very own Lady Liberty, construction of the Amsoil Arena in 2010 forced its relocation, and city officials considered moving it to another part of the city. Fortunately, a spot was found among the greenspace along the southwest corner of the new arena, where you’ll find her today.
