Song of the Week IV: Happy Birthday’s ‘Subliminal Message’

Each week I not-so-subtly suggest a song you should know by heart. For this very special fourth edition, I have chosen “Subliminal Message,” one of two singles “leaked” by the Brattleboro, Vt., trio Happy Birthday.

It’s off the group’s self-titled album, which is available today, March 16, via Seattle’s Sub Pop Records, and I’d recommend you take a listen — especially if you’re a fan of Yo La Tengo, Syrup USA, Helium or, considering the delicacy of this track, the French duo Air.
