Diamonds in the Ruff: Adoptable Duluth Dogs Make For Lovable Portrait Session

By Clint Austin, Duluth News Tribune

The idea to create portraits of dogs came to me on assignment at the Twin Ports Dog Training Club recently. The variety of dog breeds is fascinating; the diversity of sizes, colors, and personalities is incredible. Instead of photographing dogs that have homes, I was drawn to the idea of making images of shelter dogs. Animal Allies Humane Society in Duluth let me create portraits of dogs that call the life-saving shelter home.

Each of these wonderful animals has a distinct but endearing personality. They were shy, curious, confident, stoic, and friendly. Many were challenging to photograph, but each dog paused long enough for me to make a portrait. Zeke has the longest tenure of the current dogs at the shelter, he has lived there for about two months. When these photos were created late Wednesday afternoon, all of the dogs featured were available for adoption.

Animal Allies is at 4006 Airport Road in Duluth and can be reached at 218-722-5341 or at www.animalallies.net

Don’t worry if these pups have already found homes, as there are many more dogs at the shelter available to adopt.
