An Anti-Valentine’s Day

anti valentines day2

Valentine’s Day can put a certain amount of gloominess in the air if you’re single. We encourage you to reject the idea that you should be sad, eating chocolate, watching rom coms simply because you don’t have a date. There are too many things to do in Duluth to waste a great Sunday.  So, put on your favorite pair of shoes and indulge yourself with one of the following:

  • Treat Yourself
This could mean a number of things – a great dinner, chocolates, jewelry. You don’t need a romantic partner to shower you in gifts. There is no end to the many options that await you in Duluth when you choose to dedicate this Valentine’s Day to self love. Read all of our indulgent local
Valentine’s Day recommendations for treating yourself to something special.
  • Pop a Literary Squat
Reading can easily fall by the wayside. It’s easy to turn all the lights off, burrito yourself in blankets, and watch TV until you fall asleep without any effort. Reading requires focus, no texting, one light on, and possibly sitting up. Schedule an hour, or four, and head down to your local coffee shop. Don’t forget to get a delicious drink, like one of the one’s we found to warm us up this winter. Take up a corner seat, turn your phone on silent, and indulge in the pages of the book that you’ve been keeping on the nightstand.
  • Hit the Town
Ask a friend to join you and toast to the single life. Stop by the Breeze Inn for their Sunday Funday specials with $1 Off Bloody Marys, Screwdrivers and Mimosas from 11-6pm. Don’t forget to try out one of their burgers; our favorite is the
Roasted Pepper Lucy. At noon, head over to Superior to see Teague Alexy performing at Thirsty Pagan Brewing or go later at 6 pm to see Joe and Friends. If you’re into trivia, you can get all your needs filled Sunday night at Bulldog Pizza and Grill.
  • Tour Your City
Whether you’re a transplant (new Duluthian) or a lifer, take a bus tour around Duluth to learn about this historic city with The Duluth Experience. This is one of those “touristy” things that slips by people who live in the city – like New Yorkers who have never been to the Empire State Building. If history isn’t your thing, The Duluth Experience is also offering a special Valentine’s Day snowshoe tour and a fat tire bike tour, great for all skill sets.  Use discount code LUVDLH when booking your tour for Feb. 14 for 15% off ticket price.
  • Go See a Flick
Many people get flustered at the idea of seeing a movie alone, but it is liberating! Buy that jumbo popcorn and a box of Junior Mints, then put your feet up on the chair in front of you. Plus, there are many good movies showing at the theater right now. Deadpool, How to Be Single, and Zoolander 2 are all showing at Marcus Theatres.  And at Zinema 2, you can catch MOVIES.
  • Go Shopping
Want to try on that shirt eight times to make sure you really like it? Do it! No one is waiting on you. You can spend all the time you like browsing for video games, new earrings that are just the right shade of green, or whatever your heart desires. If you get bored of shopping, you can just as easily leave at the drop of a dime. It’s time to head on over to the Miller Hill Mall and enjoy the freedom of non-obligatory shopping.

There you have it. Six creative ideas to celebrating another … February 14. How do you best celebrate an Anti-Valentine’s Day?
